When spring arrives, we all want to spend as much time outdoors as possible. When summer is just around the corner, we look forward to going to the beach, swimming, and participating in a wide variety of outdoor activities. The result of spending so much time outdoors is that we are increasingly exposed to the suns UV rays. This exposure can cause serious harm to our skin if we do not protect it.

It is essential to protect our skin starting at an early age because overexposure to harmful UV rays can take years to develop into skin cancer cells. Ultraviolet has a high frequency and therefore more energy which can be more hazardous. The more energetic a ray of light is, the more that light will break the skin molecules apart thereby damaging the cells. When these rays break through to the nuclei of skin cells and damage DNA, the likelihood of the development skin cancer increases.

There are three types of ultraviolet light as it relates to protecting the skin. They are UVA, UVB, and UVC. Although UVC is the most damaging of the rays, it is totally blocked out by the Earth’s atmosphere. UVB is the wavelength that causes the most sun damage on skin. UVB rays are more likely than UVA rays to cause sunburn, but UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin. Scientists now think that UVA radiation may increase skin damage that can lead to skin cancer and cause premature aging.

UV rays can penetrate the clouds and are at their highest during late spring and early summer. They are also at their most dangerous from mid-morning to late afternoon, and will cause serious skin damage. The sun and the UV rays can damage your skin within fifteen minutes of exposure. To protect your skin from UV damage, you should apply a zinc sunblock lotion before you are exposed to the sun.

Sunscreens lotions work by deflecting the UV sunlight or dispersing it. It is recommended that you use at least a 15 SPF (Sun Protective Factor) sunscreen. Your eyes can be affected by the UV rays too. You should protect your eyes with sunglasses that indicate that they block UV rays. You should also apply an eye cream that has sunblock on it. Reapply sunscreen lotion often. You should wear a waterproof sunscreen. As well, your lips have very fragile skin and can be seriously damaged by exposure to UV rays. You should apply a lip balm that has a sunscreen in it.

Your skin is the most exposed organ of the body. UV rays can do serious damage to the skin if left unprotected. For best protection, acquire a sunscreen product that is resistant to both UVA and UVB rays. As well, wear a hat that has a wide brim to provide shade for your face. If you do see an unusual change in your skin, see your doctor. Because our skin is valuable to our physical state of well-being, we need to take good care of it.

Be conscientious when choosing baby bedding and sheets - these are the foundation to creating a comfortable space for your precious baby; and you want it to be as flawless as possible in all aspects. Don't feel beholden to the decor of the rest of the house! The nursery can be its own, completely separate space. It is all up to you - whether you stick within the rules or go wild with decorating. It is fine to allow your imagination go crazy if you are mother to be in the process of designing a nursery for your unborn child.

by Dorothea Frankson

It’s very important to thoughtfully select bedding for your baby, as this is his or her first haven and should be perfect in every aspect, from comfort and appearance to safety. A nursery can have a completely unique theme and concept, so the rest of your homes’ decor need not matter. Your choice can be simple or grand. You can choose basic colors that stay within your theme’s color range, or you can go over the top with prints and decorations too. If you’re just a would-be mother and you have the time to, you can let your imagination run wild planning our your future baby’s dream nursery.

Your first step should be in picking a theme for the nursery which can be anything from modern or traditional to fantasy land or animals and nature. There is no limit to the possibilities and your imagination can be fueled by getting ideas from baby product sites on the internet.

The Internet is full of ideas and thoughts and you can add your creativity to some of them to get a unique nursery theme. You will have so many ideas for you baby that you may feel that whatever theme you select is not quite right.

Your first task is to decide what type of colors, design or theme you want for your baby’s room, and then you are ready to shop for all the stuff to put in the room, including the baby bedding. You should keep the crib bedding simple, in order to give your child a safe place to sleep. Parents believe natural bedding products for babies can be allergy-free, soft, and safe.

Buying baby products can be so enjoyable that many mothers get carried away; so set a budget and try your best to stick to it. The most important factor when choosing any product for a baby’s nursery is comfort which is not necessarily related to the cost of the crib set. Comfort is more important than anything for your newborn, because it will encourage her to sleep on her baby girl bedding.

Make certain that the crib is free of anything that poses a suffocation threat, and check that enough fresh air circulates within the nursery. In order to ensure your baby’s safety and neatness of the crib, bedding and sheets should fit tight around the mattress. Set up your baby’s nursery keeping in mind safety and comfort of the newly born and relax.

by Dorothea Frankson

Creating the nursery is one of the funnest projects you can do while pregnant. In this place only the baby spends a good deal of time and hence it should be relaxing and stimulating too. Most likely you will freshen the walls, decide on a window treatment, and naturally, prepare the crib with baby bedding. Choose bright primary colors or soft pastels for the walls of the nursery.

Choosing a paint color may have to wait until after the baby is born, if you want a color that is gender-specific. If the woodwork is painted white, or a color that works with the walls, it looks great. If your walls are a specific color or colors, your floor should be neutral.

A nursery’s key feature is the crib bedding. The tone of nursery can be defined with the use of the bedding selected. A feminine nursery can be ensured with the use of baby girl bedding sets. The baby bedding may come in a solid color, with a simple pattern such as stripes, or with themes based on a movie or children’s TV show character.

The bedding color should complement or a contrast to the color of the room. Match the color of the bedding with the room by re-painting or choosing colors that match.

Stores sell complete bedding sets with accessories like borders and curtains. If you decide on bedding themed around a favorite television or film personality, it’s highly likely that you will be able to find other accessories featuring the same character. After you have chosen the theme and colors for the room, you may now purchase furniture decorations and pictures. For even greater effect, you might be able to get specialty knobs for your drawers that match the overall decor.

Safety must come first, when you are making up the crib for your baby. Keep in mind that there should be no room under the sheet, and your baby shouldn’t sleep with pillows, blankets, or other soft things in the crib. Eliminate items that could hinder your baby’s breathing, even if they are attractive. It would be terrible if your baby’s breathing were blocked by a pillow of blanket that covered his or her nose and mouth.

Hair care products are an astounding billion dollar a year industry. People take pride in their hair and spend a great deal of time caring it. Because there are so many types of hair care products available on the market, it sometimes seems difficult to decide which product to buy. The following is a list of the most common products used to care for your hair.

Shampoo

Shampoos clean dirt and oil from your hair. There are a variety of different types of shampoos with many designed for specific hair types. There are shampoos for dandruff, oily hair, frizzy hair, colored hair and much more. There are also organic shampoos. It is important to pick the correct shampoo for your particular hair type. Shampoos can vary in price and quality.

Conditioner

Conditioners are applied after a shampoo and rinse. Some conditioners are mixed in with shampoo. Conditioners can help repair and restore dry and damaged hair. They can also act as moisturizers and a hair product.

Shine Serum

Shine serum smoothes hair and gives it a shiny healthy look. They are normally available as a spray. It is beneficial for people with fine and straight hair. Different formulas are available for moisturizing, nourishing, and improving the hairs appearance and texture.

Volumizing Products

Hair gels are great for shaping your hair. They can make your hair shiny, lustrous, or even curly. There are also gels that will help keep your hair from becoming frizzy. ‘Wet gels’ provide a lustrous look to the hair.

Hair Sprays

Hair sprays are normally sprayed on dry hair to hold a particular style in place. A light polymer spray coats the hair as one sprays. There are different types of hair sprays for a particular level of hold such as light, medium, and super hold.

Hair Treatments

There are various types of hair treatments on the market. They can be either hot or cold. The purpose of these treatments is to revitalize, repair, and restore damaged hair. One just massages it into the hair and waits a certain amount of time, and then rinses thoroughly.

Hair Coloring Products

Hair color products are used to change the color of a persons hair or to cover up any gray hair. Types of hair color products include: ‘temporary’, ‘semi-permanent’, ‘semi-permanent,’ and permanent. The type one chooses depends on personal preference.

When it comes to hair care products, there are products available for any hair type. There are both natural and manufactured hair care products. The best type of hair care product for your hair is one that will benefit your hair color, type, and texture. The type of hair you have, your age, and your hairs condition, will determine the type of product you use.
Depending on how you do it, toilet training your toddler can be a fun activity or extremely frustrating. By now you will know, what worked for your first child may not necessarily be working for your second.. Every child learns at a different pace and in their own way. Some toddlers will seem keen to be toilet trained and others not so.

During the time I trained my 2.5 year old to use the toilet, I learned some important points that I will share with you.

* Start with a potty seat that is comfortable for your child. It adjusts to fit any toilet seat and has a rubber ring to keep it in place so that it won’t slip.

* Be patient and don’t give up too quickly. Your child may not be responding to your training in which case, take time out and start again later. After repetitive potty training eventually your child will understand. Think about it in the long run it means no more diapers to wash or throw away. It is worth being patient.

* From my experience potty training boys requires more time than girls. Boys tend to get potty trained at a later age than girls.

* Purchase a potty seat and show your child how to use it. Most if not all children love to copy what adults do. If they see you using it, they will think ‘if mom or dad can use it, so can I’.

* Toilet training is a developmental milestone for a child. For children it is a complex skill. It all starts off with the urges, then they must run to the potty, know how to remove their clothes, know how to situate themselves comfortably on this new kind of seat and how to hold urges until all systems are go. It’s all so easy for us adults but when you break down the activity of toilet training toddlers, you can understand it is a full learning process for them.

* Try seeking advice whenever required. Like I said every child’s development and learning stages are different. If your child has not toilet trained by the age of 4, there is no need to panic, keep teaching and they will eventually learn.

Current studies on some of the methods of parenting have figured out that most parents who only have low income lean to take the measures of disciplining the children in a harsher ways, as they do believe that this is more favorable than pampering a child.

On the other hand, parents whose jobs involves a high level pressure and stress and who are frustrated about definite issues also be apt to use insensitive parenting techniques even more. Several parents need to analyze the parenting help that they use to discipline their child and reasonable disciplinary actions that might be too insensitive.

This also goes along that parents who have stressful works or either come from lower income families are emotionally less stable and tend to have more emotional reactions with their kids behavior. It may be helpful for the parents in such situations to receive assistance externally as well as education about parenting help and get some ideas about more appropriate punishments for their child.

Using positive reinforcement for your childs good behavior, you have to praise him/her for every good deed that your child has done. Provide your child a particular task that he/ she will be able to complete successfully. This parenting help tip will make your child to develop his/ her self esteem since you are making him to do specific task from you.

Children do love to be praised by their parents from every successful task done. That is why this is an effective parenting help tip that can keep from providing certain punishment for your child.

by Hannah Scrivener

When hosting a childs party it can be a daunting task. A group of screaming uncontrollable kids running around your house, making mess, crying and spilling drinks is not what you want. You want your child to have a fun, exciting day filled with magic and surprise and for your guests to be entertained and be able to relax while their children enjoy themselves.

1. Location: Firstly think about the location; where you hold the party will determine the atmosphere, the mood, and the activities you are able to run. An outdoor venue is generally the best idea such as a park or playground, which are free to use and children have a great time running around in the sun. If its poor weather then consider hiring a hall, day care centre or even a restaurant which has an area for kids to run around.

2. Themes: Now that you have the location you can begin to think about themes, games and entertainment. Popular themes to consider could include fairy, princess, mermaid, Dora the explorer, Tinkerbell and Peterpan, Pirates, prince or superheroes.

3. Decorating: To create an even more exciting and magical experience for your child it is important to build upon the theme and let the magical experience run throughout the day. For example with a fairy theme you could decorate the venue to look like fairy land with balloons and glitter and pink cushions etc. Get creative with the names of the food, turning marshmallows to fairy clouds or the red cordial to love potion, chips can be goblin ears and coke can be witches broth.

4. Entertainment: Hiring an entertainer is a very popular option as they bring all the games, prizes and props and the children are excited by the idea of a magical character such as a fairy or pirate visiting the party on their special day. A good entertainer will take the children on an adventure and allow the parents to sit back, relax and watch the fun.

5. Timing: The age of your child and guests will establish how long the party will go for and what time of day is best. For under 3-4 year olds morning parties between 10-12pm work best and entertainment should go for an hour with half an hour before to let people arrive and half an hour at the end to enjoy the cake and food and say goodbye. With older children between 4-8 years old longer parties are suitable and any time of day is fine.

6. Games: Ideas such as pass the parcel, musical statues, limbo, singing and dancing, balloon bending, bubble catching and treasure hunts are all great party games loved by children. You can tailor the games to suit different themes, for example instead of playing musical statues, turn it into mermaid water freeze or change pass the parcel to pass the magic box with special prizes from fairy land inside.

7. Enjoy The Party: Finally, the most important thing is that you and your child enjoy the day with everyone. Do everything you can to ensure there is minimum stress and worry for you. The less you have to do the better. Ask a good friend to make the cake, hire an entertainer, get a friend to be the photographer for the day and make quick and simple party food. This is a celebration of your childs life so make sure the memories are happy, magical and fun-filled!

by Carol Ann

What is there to do in the summer time? When I was a kid, you could basically just wander around town, looking for a new adventure to have and worry about nothing more than getting home in time for dinner. Nowadays, it is a little harder to just let the kids loose and leave them to their own devices for an entire summer.

As I continued to think of this I also came up with another question. Why did summer always last forever when I was young? I feel like this summer, and all those before it throughout my adult life, tends to rush by like a train at full speed. I can remember as a child spending whole days at the lake, feeding birds, and trying to catch fish with a stick and a piece of thread (of course we never got any). Other days were spent flying a kite that usually ended up not flying at all, or getting stuck in a tree.

I love all these summer memories, but they often have me think of what my children will remember about summer. Riding bikes in front of the house, having friends come over and play in our yard, going over to a friends house play the latest Wii or Xbox games. These memories will be so different from the freedom that I remember and enjoyed as a child, but unfortunately the freedom that I experienced can not be extended to my children in today’s days. I don’t even feel comfortable allowing my children to ride their bikes around the neighborhood, unless I know where they are every second.

Neighborhoods are not as close as they used to be either. Growing up I knew that if I did something my parents would not approve of, Ms. Wes would come over and tell my mom, my mom would tell my dad and I was grounded for a week. I also knew that if we walked on Mr. Johnson’s grass he would yell at us “crazy kids” to get off his lawn. This was acceptable back then, it was a time when adults were able to give advice to children, that were not their own, without repercussions from the child or the child’s parents. I perfect example of how this has changes is something that happened not that long ago in my neighborhood. The kids from a few houses were playing kick ball in the street when a car came speeding down the block and almost hit them. One of the mothers yelled for the driver to slow down, the driver in turn went home and told his mother who came over and started yelling that the kids should not be playing kick ball in the street. She then went home and called child protective services on the whole cluster of homes. When I was a kid, if I ever told my parents I almost ran over a group of kids playing kickball, I would have been in a hospital bed!

I miss the good old days. Such wonderful memories, such fabulous time.

Telling a tech-savvy child of today’s era not to browse the internet is akin to the parents one generation down telling their kids to close their eyes for certain scenes in a movie or on television. It did not work then. It won’t work now. But that is no excuse for anyone to presume that parental control is totally out of context and that every child should have the freedom to go anywhere in the cyber-world. It is not just about prevention, but more about good parenting and being cautious.

Without any doubts, it is a huge challenge as the task is virtually impossible to monitor at all times, but there is an element of satisfaction in doing and telling your ward what is morally correct. The earlier generation did not stop their offspring from learning to ride a bicycle or going swimming because they may fall or drown. It would have been absurd. In the current scenario too, you would not want to block the internet entirely because you are not certain what is being accessed. The only certainty is that you will never know either.

We realize that this predicament makes it all the more questionable whether there can be any form of parental control for browsing the internet. While accepting that there cannot be absolute control, and that there should not be either, there is a limiting line that can be worked on with the words ‘constraint’ and ‘restrain’. The measures will definitely differ from home to home, depending upon the upbringing philosophy, but the thumb-rule is that excessive control may only lead to a rebellious stance, and spiral much more out of control.

At the same time, if there is too much laxity and flexibility, you may inculcate a ‘negative’ approach in the child. It would also depend on the age, as the teenagers of today could certainly tell their parents a thing or two they never knew, all courtesy the easy access sites and a whole array of information.

But there is some consolation that with InfoTech, new inventions too keep coming into the market and today software are available that can filter and glean the ‘for your eyes only’ sites. With this tool, the parent is creating a visible boundary without actually leaning over the child’s shoulder. However, this would work only within the confines of home and on the child’s personal computer, and will be a temporary deprive even if to ensure that the homework gets done. Well, that too is some bonus. But if parents actually expect that they would be in total control of the situation, and that they would actually be able to exercise total parental control over their child’s tryst with the internet, then think again.

It is virtually impossible, and the ‘virtual’ here is to lay more emphasis on that fact. Come what may; do not let the child feel they have a freedom on the freeway, because that may indirectly spell ‘you don’t care’. Know that the task is daunting. Know that it is impossible. But do it because you are a caring parent.

This phenomenon, taking place at night, has to stop when the child grows older. Bed wetting may be accompanied with daytime wetting or some bowel problems, in several cases. The nature of other children to produce urine while sleeping differs from other child. It could be an indication of a serious problem and should not be neglected. But that should never be an excuse for parents to take ‘little’ issues for granted.

UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUES YOUR CHILD MAY HAVE. Why is such a dilemma for all kids and moms as well? Why do kids wet beds? Why does it happen? When does it actually occur? Does it happen only at nights? Will it happen when the kid sleeps on afternoon naps? There are lots of WHYs and lots of HOWs.

WHY DO CHILDREN ‘WET’ THEIR BEDS?. Why do bed wetting happens? Bed wetting or what is scientifically called as nocturnal enuresis. Bed wetting that happen since infancy is called Primary bed wetting.

Upon filling up the bladder, it now sends a message to the brain. Online you can find many ways to educate you about bed wetting incidents of little kids. I lieu to this, children who are already aware that they do wet their beds while asleep on an older age than usual (like their friends), would sometimes find it hard to go to bed at night. Some children, even after toilet training, wet their beds until the time it comes to stop. .

FINDING SOLUTIONS. You believe that a cure is needed and that you will do every thing that can help your kid to become normal again.

PARENTS GUIDE TO STOP BED WETTING Knowing our system and reading over our book will help you find beneficial answers.

PARENT BEHAVIORS One of the highest rate of success in this treatment is the moisture alarm. Your child has not to be the only one to follow some rules, parents as well. You already know that they are uncomfortable and uneasy when it’s time to sleep. The use of any absorbent products, like diapers, at night to keep bed sheets from being wet effectively diminishes both the parents’ and child’s annoyance in getting up with their beds all wet. If the bladder is not filled up until the morning comes, the child will not feel urinating. It is more often used for daytime wetting. They tend to ignore the parents’ advices and continue to do what they do. Testing the child should only be done if the child is wetting over and over again at daytime.

JUST REMEMBER THIS. Soon enough you will find a happy child and a healthy life!.
