Northport, MI (PRWEB) September 19, 2005

Author Edward Davis’s new book provides a complete overview of why the system is obsolete, what the stakes are if we don’t act, and what a new design for public education will look like. He says we cannot compete in the global economy or provide citizens competent enough to participate in a working democracy without major changes.

Bill Gates said it to the 50 U. S. governors. Author Thomas Friedman echoed Gates in a series of editorials in the N.Y. Times.

“To continue discussing higher standards, smaller classrooms, more money and better teachers is tantamount to tinkering with a Model-T to make it run better on our freeways,” says education writer Edward Davis. “We face cultural deterioration, a weakening democracy and rapidly encroaching economic challenges. To face these problems head on, to have any chance of addressing them effectively, we need to redesign public education.”

According to Davis, schools have tended to view knowledge as something that can be transferred from brain to brain, and then regurgitated on a test. But this approach contradicts how the brain actually works. Under the current education system our schools are not equipped to prepare students for the realities of the 21st century. Davis says, “Until schools learn to focus on teaching kids how to learn they are not building the higher brain functions that are essential to active participation in today’s world.”

Davis further asserts that an unwillingness to confront the need for a completely revamped system has contributed to cultural decline, regressive politics and a performance oriented culture that devalues learning. “We need to be able to accurately identify the real issues that have bankrupted the system. This includes taking into account the disciplines and values of cognitive science, management, social science, technology and macro-economics.”

His new book Lessons For Tomorrow, Bringing America’s Schools Back From The Brink provides an overview of the principles and components of a newly designed “architecture” for learning. It serves as a handbook for teachers and parents, encouraging them to take a comprehensive look at the design of education and ask: “What is wrong?” and “What does the solution look like?” Davis emphasizes that we can’t continue to make kids learn in an assembly line process. “We need multiple pathways to meet learning goals and a system that encourages individual inquiry and discovery.”

Edward Davis has been a charter school teacher, a corporate trainer, an instructional designer, an education writer, a pioneer in the e-learning industry and one of the first to design and promote cognitive-based approaches to adult education. He founded and operated a training company (MetaCommunication), launched the Electronic University Network, the first successful enterprise to offer college credits and degrees online and initiated the first computer mediated college advanced placement program in a U.S. high school district.

Be Dynamic Through Speed Reading method, by Dr. Jay Polmar, is designed for those who read large volumes of printed material. Sometimes they get frustrated when they can’t keep up with all the intriguing literature that is released. Authors around the world produce printed data and fiction, at a rate so phenomenal, that even the most avid of readers struggle to keep up. With our DYNAMIC SPEED READING method, you’ll easily be able to read twice to three times the amount you now read in the same time.

The human brain/mind is capable of comprehending and cataloging from 10,000 to 50,000 units of information per minute (one unit being equal to one word) and this is based upon old statistics. Based on new technology in education and strides in self-development, your brain/mind is capable of much more.

The human body is a vehicle that records various senses and transfers them to our brain/mind. The brain/mind acts like a computer. Perhaps the brain/mind is the body’s operational computer to make easier for us to learn. We learn through information (data) which is transmitted in many ways. We receive data through our five physical senses, and our brain/mind makes decisions, choices and judgments from those factors.

Our limitations in reading were programmed during childhood when we were first taught to read. Yet, brain/mind researchers have shown that through DYNAMIC SPEED READING method, thousands have broken that pattern and increased speeds dramatically.

This course teaches techniques for becoming Dynamic. We expect you, minimally, to become a speed reader who likes to read and improve the quality of your life. Maximally, we expect great, positive successes from our students. A beginning average reading speed for the average American high school graduate is about 250 words per minute. Those from the south read somewhat slower because of their drawl. Those who stutter also read slower. An average college student reads approximately 300 w.p.m.

Take note: Recent studies have indicated that the English reading rate has dropped due to poor education in the past decade. The reduction of reading speed is astounding averaging 35% poor reading rates in the US. Be Dynamic undoes the damage of poor education system and was developed by Dr. Jay Polmar, who studied in the US when education mean something special and reading was king.

Get 4.0 average with Be Dynamic and learn to Be Dynamic through Speed Reading You can get a unique content version of this article from the Uber Article Directory.

Energy crisis the term has become a reason of doubt for countless countries across the world. With the increase in population, most energy sources are on the verge of depletion. So , it becomes significant on your part to make a conscious effort to save energy. These are some simple tips that will help you with the same.

For a start, you have to make sure that there is no spook use of energy in your home. A number of appliances consume energy even if they are not turned on but simply plugged in. Your computer monitor and television consume energy even if they’re not running but are in standby mode. You need to pull the plug of all appliances which aren’t running to make sure that this ghost energy consumption does not take place.

You can save energy at not just your home but at work too. Simply turn off the monitor of your Personal computer when not in use. Many folks assume the monitor of the computer does not consume much energy. this isn’t true. Instead, monitors consume at least 70% of the total energy that’s wanted to run a desktop or a Computer.

Since drinkable water is near depletion, saving water is also imperative. Give away the practice of letting the water run as you clean your teeth. Choose low flow aerators and shower heads. They allow smaller water to flow through and help save water. You’ll also use sprinklers to water the plants instead of employing a hosepipe. Check any leaky faucets or taps at the earliest possible.

Many folks have the practice of leaving the light on even when they leave the room. Even if you are leaving the room for two mins, it’s particularly important that you turn off the lights before you go. This way you will at least be able to save some energy. Practice this both at work as well as at home.

There isn’t any denial of the fact that a thermostat employs lots of energy. So it is extraordinarily required that there is a judicious use of this energy. You can avoid any unseemly use of this energy by simply lowering the thermostat in the winters. Or you can increase increase the same in the summers. The body can simply adjust to the changes in temperature as made. On top of that you will also manage to save lots of energy too. You can further add-on to the conservation by simply being regular with the change of air filters of the thermostat. This will also improve the functioning of the same.

One more thing that you can do to save energy is replace incandescentr bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. The 2nd uses less energy and will help you bring down your application charges.

So, wait no more. Simply incorporate energy saving tips in your daily schedule and contribute your best to the conservation of the valuable energy.

ACCELERATION THROUGH PACING:

ACCELERATION THROUGH PACING:

Hand movements can cause improvement of reading speed. Now I’ll introduce to you the well-known pacing movement. It uses your index finger of your dominant hand, i.e. right handed use right hand, to scan a line by running your finger under the type you are reading. Always turn the page with the unused, non-dominant hand. Don’t move your head, keep it still.

It’s simple. Just replace all your bad reading habits with one easily learned one: You’ll use your pacing hand. It breaks each of these habits automatically while it increases your reading speed.

The basic pacing movement utilizes the index finger of your dominant hand, i.e. right handed use right hand, to scan a line by running your finger under the type you are reading. Turn the page with the unused, non-dominant hand. Never move your head when reading, keep it still.

To understand this concept, you must understand that your nemesis “The Babbler” (your own inner voice) is reading to you in silent speech and then it goes into your brain.

You’ll read without sub-vocalizing, hearing it your mind.

To understand this concept, you must understand that you’ve got this nemesis, an inner voice who is reading to you in silent speech and then it goes into your brain. We did experiments in Hawaii, Texas, New Mexico, Florida, and elsewhere. It appears that those with the slowest speaking rates have naturally slow reading rates. With this method, your rate of speech won’t limit your reading speed. You can read as fast as you can think. What I am saying is you can read as fast as your mind can work.

Here’s the method to begin pacing across a line faster than you can form the sounds in your throat:

Extend your index finger, close all others.

DYNAMIC SPEED READING program will teach you how to develop these skills to enhance your reading ability and speed through practice and exercises. Soon, you could soon be reading twice as fast as you ever have and retaining valuable information to increase your comprehension and improve your grades.

Whether you are still a youngster or in your mid life, you need to think about a serious matter. Because we all go through life thinking we are invincible, or sometimes even immortal, we don’t realize that we are going to need long term care in the future. Whatever the cause, say an accident has made you handicapped or you grow old and frail, you will need someone to take care of you.

Who will that someone be, and will they have enough money to care for you over a long period of time? If you are thinking about putting the burden on someone else, you rethink your motives. You see medical expenses are exorbitant today, let alone twenty to fifty years in the future.

Governments insist on cut backs every day while private care facilities just cannot cope with the financial strains. The outcome? In future we will be left to fend for ourselves. There are more baby boomers in special care facilities than ever before and the amount is growing. Have you thought about who will pay for the special equipment you might need to help you survive ill health?

Or, what about that high quality hearing aid you will need? And, how are you going to pay for chronic medications should be have a life long illness? You see, there are so many aspects to consider that it would be wise to take out insurance that specially covers a long term care plan.

Should you require care that will be given to you over a very long time, a good policy will provide for everything you should need while you convalesce. If you don’t have insurance in place, you will be faced with medical bills that are shockingly high and which will probably bankrupt you within four months. In this case it will also be unfair to expect your family members to help.

Your next step then would be to find a solid insurance company who specializes in long term care policies. They are very well structured in issues like; doctor’s visits, medicines, hospitalization, chronic medication and day care nurses, will be paid for by your insurance policy. This policy will also have the facility where your are protected against inflation on a year to year basis.

No matter how you look at it, long term care can become necessary overnight. One does not have any control how or when it will happen and can only hope that it doesn’t come your way. But, that is not the wise route to take as the better one will be to provide cover for yourself, instead of having to rely on others to do it for you.

Before you go out and buy a policy go to Long Term Care Insurance, ask questions and request a long term care insurance quote. As such, both and parents and church leaders should try to ensure to ensure having only the best of this kind of curriculum. The religious growth of each and every child across the globe should never be taken for granted just as their personal and social development is well taken care of.

Parents should therefore try to inched their way out in trying to ensure being able to provide all the necessary tools and resources to take care of their children’s spiritual growth. As parents it is also our big task to ensure that our children are properly nourished with the words of God for their spiritual growth. Other than providing for your kid’s physical and social needs, it is essential that you should scrutinize children’s church curriculum used in church or religious congregation you belong.

Church leaders on the other hand should also be extra cautious in having to choose with the right curriculum for all children belonging to their community. Being extra cautious in dealing with this matter helps a lot. Hence, it is therefore essential to be able to know how a good children’s curriculum should be.

There are different parameters for each and every one of us to adhere to when it comes to making sure having only the best children’s church curriculum. How varied these curriculum may be, it is essential that it must conform with the teachings of the church regardless of religious affiliation. It should therefore be efficient in propagating the Gospel.

A good church curriculum for children should truly build strong christian faith amongst children. It should propagate teachings pertinent to life-changing experience to inspire the innocent minds of children. Above all these, it should be powerful enough to lay some sort of stepping stones to holy living for children.

Aside from having to take note of the content of this curriculum, it is also very important to take note of the medium in which these shall be taught. Since most children easily get bored, it is important that this must be taught in a more interesting manner. The medium in which it shall be propagated therefore also counts a lot.

Since, most children are easily bored, children’s church curriculum should be taught in an interesting manner. Using the latest in modern technology this curriculum can become more exciting for children to appreciate and learn. But what is more important is for it to be easily understood for kids to be able to absorb the teachings they ought to get from such curriculum.

You do not need to spend a lot for curriculum of this kind. For children to easily absorb the morals and teachings it contains, it should be simple and easily understood. These are just among the many things you need to take note of in having to choose only the best Children’s church curriculum.

Parents can engage their children in joining christian kids teaching lessons. In this way, the child can mold himself to be a good Christian follower and at the same time, be an obedient citizen of society. You can also try to become kids’ bible curriculum program.

That is right. You read the title right. Finding daycares in Carrollton just got easier. How did we do that? Well, we helped you by looking through the big variety they had and narrowed our choices down to five to tell you about. Curious as to what they are? Well, keep reading and we can tell you all about them.

The first on our list is Primrose School of Castle Hills. This is a very recommended choice. There are other Primrose schools around, but this is the one that laid the foundation for them. You should see all that they have to offer school wise. Then when school is over, they even have before and after school care until you get off of work. How is that for exciting?

The Kiddie Shack Daycare is another one of them that are great. Open from seven in the morning until six at night, this is the place to put your child. They often have a waiting list so you do need to be prepared for that. See what they can do with their great staff. You might just be impressed.

Yet, we have a third one to tell you about. This is the Rising Starz Child Care Center. They cater to the individual needs of children so that daycare is not so hard on them. We all might remember going to daycare ourselves. Do you remember how hard it was on you? It does not have to be that hard anymore with this day care center.

Another great one is the Parker Chase Development Center. For those kids ages six weeks all the way to twelve years of age, they offer a curriculum for the kids to follow until you come to pick them up. You will be amazed at all they learn and this is great to hear. Children need that nurturing environment.

Kids who have never been to day care might adapt really well here at Kids Play. That is right. They have been helping parents who have separation anxiety. They make the kids feel at ease. Then they give them things to do while the parents are at work to enrich their little minds and other areas of development.

So, see what you can do for yourself and check these out first. With warm staff and much promise they can be just what you needed. Do not be surprised if one of these is your first choice as they were ours. Good luck to you, but that should not be needed! Not with these at least.

In Carrollton, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, there are many child care centers to choose from when looking for a place for your child. They are all well equipped to look after your child. Deciding on the right place for your child is always a big decision as there are always anxious moments when you first leave your child in the care of someone else. Carrollton childcare centers have plenty to offer and you should find the right one that fits your needs.

Having a nanny is a great option for your child. However, this can be expensive and not workable for may couples. Most parents will choose a child care center when seeking a place for their children. Not only will it cost less, but your child will learn to socialize and play with others.

Begin your search long before you have to go back to work. This will give you plenty of time to finish your research, visit possible locations, and make your decision. The earlier you begin your search, the less stress you will have at the end.

The first thing you should do is determine what matters the most to you. You should also identify what your child’s needs are and what type of budget you have for day care. Locate child care centers online or in the Yellow Pages, or by checking with the Department of Human Services.

As working parents, it is vital in knowing the hours of operation. Opening and closing times should coincide or fit within your work schedule. Some centers may keep different hours so this should be one of the first questions you ask.

There are many other questions that are important to ask when searching carrollton childcare centers. What type of training is offered to the staff? Is the center accredited? What is the ratio of staff to children? What philosophy does the care center have towards education? Are there any extra fees? Any overtime charges if you are a few minutes for pick up? These are all essential questions. Know before you sign up!

Create a list of potential choices for day care. Visiting the potential choices on your list is essential, Visit with the staff, take a tour of the facility, ask a million questions and watch the interactions between adult and child.

A childcare center is where your child will spend a good portion of his or her day. You want this decision to be made wisely and based on research. There are many Carrollton childcare centers and you will find one that fits your needs. Be sure to start the process early. Research, visit and ask hundreds of questions and you will certainly make the right decision.

Brilliance is one of the Premier Carrollton Childcare Centers or visit Brilliance Preschool & Academy @14450 Marsh Lane.

Is it even possible to teach yourself to play piano? For those with the ability to read music from other musical experiences, the process will be easier. However, this certainly doesn’t mean that those without musical training on other instruments can’t self teach as well. It just takes some time and patience.

The 88 keys that make up the piano’s keyboard consist of 52 white and 36 black keys. Initially you want to focus on learning how to play the white keys. It’s best if you have a firm understanding of the placement of the white keys before you add in the black keys (sharps and flats) to your efforts.

Initially, you will want to understand how to find middle C. From there, everything builds on itself. Middle C is located almost dead center in the piano. Middle C is the 40th white key when counted from the left hand side of the piano, facing the keyboard. Of course, there are other ways to identify it, which will be essential for learning where the other C’s on the piano keyboard are as well as this note’s relationship to other notes.

To recognize it after you’re found middle C the first time, you have to study the formation of the black keys. These are found in sets. The black keys are arranged with two keys, then two white keys, the then three black keys. The white key that sits to the left of the set of two black keys is a C note.

Once you know where C is, then you can easily start to learn the repetitive scales that are part of understanding the piano. The notes go in order from C. Listed, the notes would be written out as C, D, E, F, G, A, B.

As you start to learn the pattern of the piano, learning to play it is like learning to read a book for the very first time. Start with simple letters, which are represented by the names of the keys. Once you learn the letters then move onto the words (notes) and then you continue to learn the sentences (chords) until you can put the whole story together. It takes time, practice, and a really informative line of information in order to teach yourself to play piano.

Mike Eggers is an amateur musician and piano player who writes about how to Learn To Play Piano. Make sure to check out his other articles, especially if you want to learn to play on piano or want To Learn Gospel Piano Music.

The time when you have to head back to work comes all too quickly for most mothers and finding good child care to entrust your baby to can be a very stressful experience. In order to minimize the stress to you or your child, you should carefully consider the Addison Texas child care center that you are going to use.

Other parents are a great resource for helping you to find a child care center. Many of them have been through what you are going through and have done a lot of research and heard reports from other parents they know. Many parents will be able to recommend different Addison Texas child care centers for you and give you a real head start on the process.

It is important that you find a child care center that is supportive and welcoming. A center that has an open door policy to parents and allows them to visit at any time will let your mind rest easy as they are more understanding of the stresses a working mother undergoes and the needs of the children to have their parents there if they need them.

A good Addison Texas child care center will also have very good communication channels between center staff as well as between staff and parents. When you visit the center you should ask about the types of communication methods used to ensure that everyone has all the necessary information about the children at their fingertips. This is especially important when the children have some kind of special need.

The Addison Texas child care center that you elect should provide a stimulating environment for your child by having a great range of activities planned throughout the day. These activities should be balanced between physical and quiet play as well as activities that involve books, art and music.

When you pay a visit to the center you should check on the physical safety standards that are in place at the center. Accredited child care centers must meet safety standards and the director and other staff members at the center should be able to explain the safety procedures that they have in place.
