Many single parents may feel guilty that they don’t have a normal family for their child to be raised up in. Seeking out partners in the wrong places, and getting into bad relationships at times. But you don’t have to have another person to raise your child if you use the right tips.
Single parents may try to buy their kids everything they want, but they are only creating a spoiled kid. One that will always expect everything they want. You need to teach them that money doesn’t grow on trees, and at times you won’t have the money needed to buy things.
If your child misbehaves you need to punish them, even if you’re busy with work. Take the time to teach them they have to answer for the things they do wrong. Many kids of single parents you will see doing things and never being corrected.
If they steal something punish them the right way, make them answer to the things they have done. Don’t fight their fights for them; they need to learn what is right and what is wrong. If they need to be sent to juvenile, let them go.
There are only certain things that you need to protect your child from, people who will hurt them, is the main thing. But when you child does wrong, you need to make them realize it, and at times it can be tough. Single parents will feel they have failed, but you haven’t.
It’s all about growing up and many teens are raised by single parents. The divorce rate is ridiculously high, so it’s not odd to happen. But giving into your child because you feel guilty is the worst thing to do. Protecting them too much is even worse though.
Drinking can be the same thing, if you are constantly drinking to the point where you are drunk, what do you think your kids will learn? Set an example that they can follow, not the old “do as I say not do”, concept.
These kids may be the ones who never get on their feet fully, always borrowing money from you. Or coming to you when they have problems they should have learned how to handle before. You also need to be sure you’ve set a good example for your child to follow.
